The Green Goblin is actually the name of several different characters that have appeared in Marvel Comics. The first and most memorable though of course is the Spiderman Villain that made its debut in Amazing Spider-Man #14 in July of 1964.
The Green Goblin was formally just a man named Norman Osborn who gained certain abilities through a serum. These abilities and the increased intellect made him go crazy. He then put on a goblin suit and started to terrorize New York City on his Goblin Glider.
